Anne-The-Jeweler
Casting is a process of melting gold and pouring into a plaster mold. First a wax model
is carved in the size and shape needed. Then wax will be exactly the same
size and shape. Every file mark and scratch that is left on the wax will be reproduced in the gold
casting. The wax is then put into a plaster of Paris mold and put into a furnace to melt out the wax.
The space left from the negative impression is the space that the gold is poured into.
The casting
looks exactly like the wax model.
Fabricating a piece of jewelry takes ready made materials and solder them together into a
piece
of jewelry. You take ready made "heads" (the things that hold the stone),
and pieces of gold wire
together. You bend the wire into the envisioned jewelry, soldering
the wires and heads together
to make rings, pendants, and earrings.
